For all the lovers of the art of stand-up, among us, we don’t always have the energy to sit through an entire stand-up special, even if it’s from the best. We struggle; there is a sigh of escapist relaxation, a whole hour, tiring. Here’s a solution for just the right amount of stand-up: ‘Kill Tony,’ and it’s not just an hour. It’s two.

5 reasons why ‘Kill Tony’ is a must-watched podcast for stand-up comedy lovers in 2024

1. The King: Tony Hinchcliffe

If there’s one thing Tony Hinchcliffe knows how to do really well, it’s roast people. Tony started his career as a young stand-up comedian in Los Angeles around the same time as his appearance on the Comedy Central Roasts show, where he was part of the regular team that roasted celebrities such as Donald Trump and Justin Bieber. In his podcast, Kill Tony, he gives newcomers a chance every week to perform for one minute in front of him and a panel of rotating stand-up comedians. Tony is the king of the podcast. He is witty, funny, and a true stand-up fan. Although there’s a chance you might feel like disappearing into the ground after an unsuccessful performance in front of him, that’s part of the deal.

Disclaimer: Tony can be rude, blunt, and embarrassing, and sometimes watching him is like watching someone cut a vein.

2. The Guest of the Kill Tony podcast

Every week, unknown comedians appear before Tony and a rotating panel of guests, mostly stand-up comedians. Similar to a TV talk show, stand-up comedians make the pilgrimage to be a guest on a podcast when they need to promote a stand-up special on Netflix/YouTube or a new stand-up tour. Joe Rogan, Bill Burr and Post Malone are just some of the well-known names who have been guests on the podcast.

3. The Regulars

The regulars are stand-up comedians who appear every week on the show and are an integral part of the podcast. The best-known ones, like William Montgomery, David Lucas, and Hans Kim, have large fan bases and personal podcasts.

A young stand-up comedian who was recently added to the team and became a ‘Regular’ is Kam Patterson (who replaced David Lucas). Patterson is a comedic talent in the making, who managed to take Tony Hinchcliffe and the podcast fans by storm from the first moment.⬇️

4.The Discoveries

If Tony Hinchcliffe thinks you’re funny, you’re on the right comedic path. Here are two worthy discoveries from the last few months: Rick Diaz and Heath Cordes, whose names were randomly drawn and who turned out to be hilarious comedians.”

5. A Mexican Drum Off

As Tony constantly mentions, Austin, Texas is one of the top destinations for live music. On the Kill Tony podcast, there’s a live band with a tradition called “A Mexican Drum Off”: whenever a comedian is selected to perform his one-minute stand-up and mentions he knows how to drum, he must showcase his skills. If the comedian is better than the band’s drummer, Michael Gonzalez, he can take his job. By the way, Michael Gonzalez is an extraordinary drummer.
